From 1994 to1999, Rory attended Eastern Michigan University where he concurrently completed degrees in English and education. Rory competed in cross country, and indoor and outdoor track and field. He has been a teacher and coach at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School in Burlington since 1999. In 2006, Rory was hired as the head cross country coach at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. In 2008 and 2010, he was voted the Ontario University Athletics women’s cross country coach of the year. In 2013, he was voted the OUA men’s cross country coach of the year. He was the meet director of the 2013 OUA Cross Country Championships held at Hamilton’s Chedoke Golf Course.
