Behind the Scenes: The Life of a Race Director with Larry Coggins Jr (#71)

Have you ever wondered what it is like being a race director at an endurance event? In today's episode I had the oppuruntiy to chat with a race Director from Central Florida, Larry Coggins Jr.

Larry is the Regional Executive Director of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. He is a Florida State University alumni, and a retired Florida Highway Patrol spokesman. Larry resides in Central Florida with his wife Stephanie and son Kyle.

Episode Highlights:

  • Larry shares the story of a failed stress test, and why he choose running as a means to get back into a healthier lifestyle

  • Larry talks about his experience being a race director for many of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving running events. Most people do not understand all the work that goes on behind the scenes at endurance events, and Larry gives some interesting perspective as a race director.

  • Larry discusses why he has a goal to run a marathon every year. He is looking to run the Celebration Marathon in January of 2024. Part of the motivation to keep pushing him is to re-create a photo at the marathon with his son Kyle.
